The beginning of the new school year

School time has finally arrived. The children have returned from vacation feeling grown up and rested.

At the first lesson, they enthusiastically talked about how they spent their summer.
And one of the most vibrant events in Luxembourg at the end of August and beginning of September is the Schueberfouer fair.

Together, we recalled how and why this fair came to be, where it was originally held, why the "March of the Sheep" fountain stands on the main shopping street in the center of Luxembourg, and many other interesting facts from the history of one of the oldest and largest fairs in Europe.

Carnival and Maslenitsa

The festival of the sun, the festival of farewell to winter, the awakening and renewal of nature after a long winter.

In all cultures, the carnival holiday has always been associated with the end of winter and the revival of nature.

In Luxembourg, Carnival is called Fuesend and is traditionally celebrated between Liichtmёssdag, which takes place on February 2, and Aschermёttwoch, which falls on Wednesday of the first week of Lent. This year, it falls on March 5.

During this period, costumed processions along the main streets and children's festivals take place throughout the country.

The most famous carnival takes place in the city of Diekirch. This year it will take place on Sunday, March 2.

As part of the ZhBL project, in class we compared the similarities between the traditions of Carnival and Maslenitsa.

March 8th holiday

March 8 is International Women's Day, which is also celebrated in Luxembourg.

During the middle school lesson, students learned about the origins of this holiday. They also wanted to surprise their beloved mother with a unique card. So, they used aluminum coffee capsules for the card.

Kind wishes and tender phrases will surely please mothers.

Dancing procession

On Tuesday after Trinity (this year on June 10), along the ancient streets of Echternach,
To the rhythm of jumping and the sounds of brass music, thousands of hearts move in a single impulse, with bright faith, with hope for healing and with gratitude for the miracle of life.

As part of the JBL project, our students recalled what they know about this dancing procession, one of the most famous and oldest processions in Europe, included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010.

May these rhythmic steps and jumps bring peace, health and inspiration to every home and every heart.
